“I got cherry, berry, orange and banana / The sweetest thing ever / You can juice it Tropicana yah / Boy I know just what you look-in at / L-L-Look-in at Look-in what you look-in at.”

At the age of eight, Alicia G began classical vocal training. By the time she was 15, she had traveled across the U.S., competing in beauty pageants. Since then, Alicia G has made major waves releasing hits like “Daisy Duke Two Step,” “Shake Down,” and “It’s Little But It Jiggles.”

Along with her delicious blend of pop and hip-hop, her stylish lyricism, and her mischievous personality, Alicia G boasts a literal army of international fans.

CelebMix caught up with Alicia G to find out more about the inspiration for “GUM,” how she got started in music, and what her fans can look forward to.

What inspired your new single/music video, “GUM?”

What inspired me to do the song “GUM” is actually quite a funny story. When I was bartending right out of high school, I had a girl walk up to me to order a drink and asked for juice and goose … I replied back ‘what type of juice would you like’…she said back to me ‘I want JUICY… orange juice.’ I laughed and then I filled her drink. That is how the song ‘GUM’ was inspired along with always having such a petite frame and loving bubble gum and being able to chew your gum with attitude. No matter what size or shape you are, be proud of who you are and promote body positivity!

Who directed the video and where was it shot?

The video was directed by Ian Brenna and was filmed at Sports Performance Center in Buffalo New York.

What do you want people to take away from the music video?

After watching my music video… being able to chew your gum with attitude. No matter what size or shape you are and be proud of who you are and promote body positivity. Also, to enjoy each and every day and live for the moment!

How did you get started in music? Where are you from?

What sparked my initial interest in music is, I came from a very musical background my grandfather was a part of a 12-piece orchestra playing the piano and my father supported his way throughout college by playing the drums in a band. A musical background from my family, along with lessons in classical piano, and voice lessons all the way to classical opera lessons inspired my love for music. I am from Buffalo New York.

Did your hometown impact your sound?

No, my hometown did not impact my sound. My fans impact my sound.

What can you share about your writing process?

My writing process comes from real-life experiences. A lot of it is based off of my fans and real-life experience.

Which artists in your opinion are killing it right now?

There are so many great artists out there but I’m going to say Eminem because he has such longevity and is always fun and creative and you never know what he’s gonna do next. He’s truly one of my favorite artists.

Where do you find inspiration for your music? Do you draw inspiration from poems, music, TV, or other media?

There are many different things that inspire my writing, but most of the time real-life experiences and my fans … The Alicia G Army (AGArmy). Boom Boom Baby!

What can your fans expect over the next six months? New material? Live gigs?
